What is the difference between Critical illness insurance and normal Health insurance ?
In a critical illness policy one is covered against certain critical illnesses only. Some of the coverage’s include Kidney disease, brain tumor, major organ transplant and many more depending on the companies. Whilst normal health insurance provides coverage for mild sicknesses such as malaria, cold, typhoid etc. If one has a normal health insurance, coverage will definitely include critical illness but with a critical illness policy you won’t be entitled to coverage for normal disease like malaria, typhoid. For e.g. If your age is 25 and you buy normal health insurance from XYZ company and let say its premium is Rs. 3000 for cover of 3 lacs in a critical illness policy of 3 lacs the premium would be lesser considering the age. Similarly for elderly persons the premium for critical illness insurance will be more than that of normal health insurance because the risk of getting critical disease are more at old age. One other option would be to avail critical illness rider in term plan itself.
